在北京冬奥会缅怀时刻，现场响起了《送别》的歌声，80名舞者走出一幅“垂柳图”。365位普通人手捧柳枝惜别冬奥，他们向场地中央汇聚，以这种的方式，演绎中国人传承千年的“惜别怀远”、“折柳寄情”。
在中国古代，送行者往往会折一条柳枝送给远行的亲朋。折柳也成为了独具东方文化韵味的送别方式。

世界各地的运动员们拉起手来跳跃、舞动、庆祝这场盛会。
据闭幕式总导演张艺谋称，“最早有600多人，现在是2000多人。大家都愿意来参加闭幕式，愿意参加这最后的狂欢，说明运动员很开心，我们朋友遍天下。”
