教师节是一个感谢老师一年来教诲的节日，旨在肯定教师为教育事业所做的奉献，不同国家的教师节时间不同。尊师重教历来是中国的优良传统，早在公元前11世纪的西周时期，就提出“弟子事师，敬同于父”。1985年第六届全国人大常委会第九次会议通过了国务院关于建立教师节的议案，会议决定将每年的9月10日定为教师节，1985年9月10日，是中国的第一个教师节。1994年联合国教科文组织规定每年10月5日为“世界教师日”。xx年著名人文学者李汉秋以提案的方式屡次呼吁以孔子诞辰作为教师节，认为将这一天作为教师节，其文化内涵会大为丰富，历史和现实意义也很强，这一建议受到各方面的支持，并且有其良好的外部环境和气氛，至今仍把9月28日定为教师节。
教师被人们称为“园丁”、“人类灵魂的工程师”，是受到全社会尊重的一种职业。早在1931年5月，教育家邰爽秋、程其保等人就曾建议设立教师节，发表了《教师节宣言》，呈请当时的中央政府批准，并于1931年6月6日在南京中央大学举行了第一次庆贺教师节的仪式。但当时的教育部没有批准把这个节日列入学校校历。尽管这样，后来许多学校的教师仍于6月6日
自动举行纪念活动。
1939年，当时的教育部规定以每年的8月27日孔子诞辰纪念日为教师节，并公布了《教师节纪念暂行方法》，但后来未实行。
新中国成立后，1951年经教育部和全国教育工会商定，废除了6月6日的教师节，而将教师节改在同“五一”国际劳动节一起纪念因无教师特点，实行效果?不理想，后来教师节便销声言迹了。
1985年1月21日，第六届全国人大常委会第九次会议决定，每年9月10日为教师节。
定教师节为9月10日，是考虑到新学年开始，学校要有新的气象，师生要有新的感觉。新生入学伊饱即开始尊师重教活动，可以给教师教好、学生学好创造良好的气氛。同时，9月份全国性节日少，便于各方面集中时间组织活动和突出宣传报道、促进全国范围内形成尊师重教、尊重知识、尊重人才的良好社会风气。
教师节不仅仅是赞美教师，更重要的是讴歌灿烂的、塑造人类灵魂的一种职业。希望全社会都来尊师重教，那样才会国富民强，繁荣兴盛!
